In this lesson of Waku Waku Japanese, Konomi teaches some gairaigo, which are adopted words (words with a foreign origin) in Japanese, so if they might sound familiar to you.

Hanbaagaa – hamburger

Koohii – coffee

Piza – pizza

Koora – cola; coke

Esukareeta – escalator

Erebeetaa – elevator

Konpyuuta – computer

Intanetto – internet

Arubaito – part-time job

Zubon – pants

Manshon – apartment (larger)

So try out these words that have been brought to Japan from other countries, you probably know some without even realizing it! Japanese has many gairaigo.
