The tragic events of March 11, 2011, have served as a springboard for social, artistic and economic innovation in the Tohoku region and Japan as a whole. This newfound energy and innovation has helped contribute to the changing of attitudes and industries. Toyo Ito, commissioner of the Golden Lion-winning Japan Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale and founder of Toyo Ito & Associates, rethinks future towns and architecture, and speaks about his conversations with victims of the 3/11 tragedy and the renewed importance of human-to-human and human-to-nature bonds.
Followed by a reception.
