An active stock market and rapid dissemination of IT has pushed online brokerage firms into the spotlight in Japan. Meanwhile, mega-banks are focusing their attention on retail services. In this climate, Monex has announced the merger with Nikko Beans to create Monex Beans Holdings, Japan’s largest online brokerage firm. Oki Matsumoto, who founded Monex in 1999 and becomes CEO of the merged company in August, discusses his strategy for Monex Beans Holdings, which aims to become a total retail financial enterprise.
