Held at Kinokuniya Bookstore
1073 Avenue of the Americas (between 40th and 41st Street)

Children and families are invited to learn about Sadako, a legendary girl whose 1,000 paper cranes have become a symbol of the call for peace. Sadako, who died of the effects of radiation poisoning in 1955, was two years old when an atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima in 1945. Children learn about the life of Sadako and the significance of 1,000 paper cranes through storytelling. In the second part of the program, children and families make a chain of paper cranes (orizuru) to take home.

Recommended ages: Pre-K-elementary school children, their accompanying adults, K-6 educators and librarians.

Admission is free: For more information, contact Education Programs at (212) 715-1254 or 1203.
