Join us for a special in-depth preview of Christie’s upcoming Japanese and Korean Art auction. This private walkthrough, led by Hua Zhou, Junior Specialist in Japanese and Korean Art at Christie’s, will offer Japan Society’s Circle of Friends donors an in-depth look at key highlights of the sale.
Featured works include a rare Heian Period sculpture of Dainichi Nyorai, an early impression of Hokusai’s iconic Great Wave, a striking crane painting by the legendary Ito Jakuchu, a unique screen with fan paintings, and an exquisite cloisonné enamel vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki. The auction also showcases a remarkable selection of Meiji period works of art, netsuke from a distinguished private European collection, modern and contemporary Japanese artworks and so much more.

Design in Dialogue: Ming/Modern Classical Chinese Furniture in Contemporary Spaces
Location: Christie’s New York, James Christie’s Room
Following the tour, guests are invited to a thought-provoking panel discussion on the enduring influence of Ming dynasty furniture on modern design and architecture. The conversation will feature Susan Yun and Felix Ade of Yun Architecture—the firm behind Japan Society’s stunning atrium—alongside interior designer Penelope August. Christie’s specialists Michelle Cheng (Chinese Works of Art) and Victoria Tudor (Design) will co-moderate the discussion, exploring how classical aesthetics continue to shape contemporary spaces.
