KUSAMA: Princess of Polka Dots
2007, 5 min., digital video, color. Directed by Heather Lenz. Produced by Karen Johnson and Heather Lenz.

The trailer for KUSAMA: Princess of Polka Dots has been assembled from a work-in-progress documentary about Yayoi Kusama’s contributions to the New York art world in the 1960s. LA-based Lenz has been awarded numerous grants and continues to seek financial support in order to complete this documentary. www.kusamadocumentary.com

Summer of the Serpent

2004, 27min., 35mm, color. Directed by Kimi Takesue.

When a peculiar twosome arrive at the community pool, 8-year old Juliette’s fascination with the manservant turns her day into a fantasy filled with tender curiosity. Director Takesue is currently working on a feature film set in both Japan and New York, starring prominent Japanese and American actors.

Shall We Sing?
2006, 42 min., digital video, color. Directed by Reina Higashitani.
This award-winning documentary follows a men’s choir composed of 50 Japanese businessmen living in New York. New York-based filmmaker Higashitani takes us into the members’ lives, far away from their home country and bound by their love for singing. Winner at the Tokyo Video Festival.


Networking Salon
5:30 pm


Following the screenings, there will be an intimate gathering of directors and industry insiders producing films related to Japan. This public event gives filmmakers an opportunity to mingle and make new connections within the NY-Japan film community.
