May 5 – June 18

This exhibition will feature the work of three artists. Warren MacKenzie, one of this country’s foremost potters — a ceramic artist known round the world for pots that, like the artist himself, are both casual and dignified. The entire exhibition was inspired by several visits to Japan and a desire to bring together ceramics and ceramic artists of the highest caliber. Delores Coan, ceramics teacher at The Hotchkiss School since 1980, first visited pottery studios in Japan in March of 2001. She returned to campus electrified and inspired by one Japanese master in particular – 7th Hanjiro Mizuno. Many trips, letters and phone calls later, 7th Hanjiro Mizuno is traveling to the United States for his first exhibition in an American venue. The exhibition will also introduce the porcelain work of Japanese native Junko Shibata-Ito.
