Not Held at Japan Society – Agatsuma at Lincoln Center Out of Doors

On August 27 at 6 pm, music lovers will be treated to a taste of Japanese contemporary music flavor. Playing the traditional shamisen, an ancient, banjo-like instrument, Agatsuma has been a surprising musical sensation in Japan. He has taken the shamisen out of its traditional setting and invented a new “rock shamisen” style that fuses Japanese folk and classical music with contemporary jazz, blues and pop.
