Nihon NY – Episode 10: Messages to Japan
With the devastating events that took place in Japan on March 11, our thoughts and prayers have been with those affected. On March 12, 2011, Japan Society created the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, a disaster relief fund to aid victims of the Tohoku-Pacific Ocean earthquake in Japan. To date, the fund has raised over $5 million dollars from over 14,000 donations worldwide. In addition, through June 30, half of all admission and ticket sales at Japan Society will go to the fund. For more information on Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund please visit: http://www.localhost:10053/earthquake We at Nihon NY have been busy aiding with relief efforts at Japan Society. Recently had an opportunity to visit a local school and spend time with its students. Our utmost thanks to the Family School and its teachers, students and parents. Students from Rhode Island School of Design’s Wintersession 2011 Architectonics class with Instructor & Design Director Aki Ishida designed and created Luminous Washi Lanterns for Japan Society’s Concert for Japan on April 9th. The collective piece grew over the course of the event as visitors wrote messages for those affected by the earthquake.
