Takeshi Kitano’s exciting and hilarious new film is an ingenious homage to the original Shintaro Katsu blind swordsman series, as well as a dynamic and vibrant work of Kitano’s own cinematic vision. A blond-haired Kitano stars as the legendary Zatoichi who demonstrates mesmerizing swordsmanship. Zatoichi helps two young sisters avenge the brutal murder of their parents and, at the same time, rescues the villagers from the tyranny of corrupt local bosses. The film’s surprising ending and spectacular tap dance scenes are fresh and truly memorable. Actor Tadanobu Asano will introduce the film.
Followed by a reception.
