An investigation into the works of Tatsumi Hijikata. Presented in conjunction with the 2nd CAVE New York Butoh Festival.
One of the best known and acclaimed butoh artists in the world returns to the Japan Society. Ko Murobushi performs his latest work Handsome Blue Sky (Bibo no Aozora), with three male dancers from his Edge Co. Taking its title from one of Tatsumi Hijikata’s essays, the piece is an homage to this founder of butoh. Known as the leading inheritor of Hijikata’s original vision of butoh, Ko performed extensively throughout Europe and South America during the 1980s; this program marks his long-awaited U.S. debut with his company’s work.
Tickets: $35/$30 Japan Society members.
