Karate to Tea: A Hands-On Approach to Teaching Japan

Using a series of hands-on activities, this course provides an overview of Japanese culture and specific ideas of activities that can be used to introduce Japan to the young learner. Utilizing both expert scholars and practitioners, participants will learn about and participate in activities ranging from tea ceremony to martial arts to Japanese cooking, with an eye toward utilizing these activities with students. Each session will provide an overview of the relationship between a specific activity, such as Japanese food, origami or Japanese style children’s storytelling as part of teaching literacy and larger cultural issues, as well as hands on experience.

Tuition:
Non-credit $125;
3P credit ASPDP Course Fee $100, Registration Fee $100

Both credit and non-credit participants must fill out the Japan Society Registration Form (PDF).
