Contemporary Dance Showcase
Friday & Saturday January 10 & 11 at 8:30 pm

Four new groups!

Dance company Nibroll crosses the borders of dance, film, music and visual arts. Their movements, derived from everyday urban life, are presented in enigmatic style with whimsical and cynical imagery.

Dance Theatre Ludens explores physical and psychological aspects of being and existence through delicate, playful movements that express a full range of emotion.

Strange Kinoko (Mushrooms) Dance Co., comprised of three female dancer/choreographers, is best known for a hip, slapstick style that pokes fun at everything from pop icons to Mount Fuji.

Butoh experimentalist Akemi Takeya has developed an astonishing combination of movement and voice that is incorporated into dance with poetic, expressive movement. Characterized by Japanese aesthetics and Oriental philosophy, her charismatic performance is both frightening and fascinating to watch.
