Invitational Luncheon with the Honorable Naoto Kan, Secretary General, Democratic Party of Japan

Japan Society hosted an invitation-only luncheon with Naoto Kan, Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and a Member of the House of Representatives. Within the House of Representatives, he has served as the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Mr. Kan joined the New Party Sakigake in 1994, later forming the Democratic Party of Japan in 1996 and elected Co-Leader in 1997; he became President after the DPJ was newly reformed in April 1998. He was Minister of Health and Welfare in the First Hashimoto Cabinet in 1996. We were also joined by Motohisa Ikeda, a Member of the House of Representatives of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) currently serving his third term. He is also Director-General of the DPJ’s International Department.
