Javier de Frutos is the choreographer of the performance element of Simon Starling’s project At Twilight, and has worked widely in dance, theatre, visual arts and film. Born in Venezuela in 1963, de Frutos began his dance training in 1980, continuing at the London School of Contemporary Dance and at the Merce Cunningham School, New York. His work is in the repertoire of many ballet and contemporary dance companies including Rambert Dance Company, Scottish Ballet and The Royal Ballet among others. In 2000, de Frutos became one of the first recipients of an Arts Council Fellowship, through which he studied the works of Tennessee Williams. He represented Britain at the 2006 Venice Biennale. De Fruto’s film and TV credits include "The Long Road to Mazatlan" in collaboration with Isaac Julien, which was nominated for the Turner prize in 2001. De Frutos is also credited with the movement direction for Mika’s music video "We Are Golden" and more recently the new HBO drama Game of Thrones, directed by Thomas McCarthy.
