

Money Hickman, Fellow for Research in Japanese Art, Emeritus, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, discusses the work of Soga Shohaku (1730-81), the important individualist painter of the 18th century. Shohaku is know for his idiosyncratic interpretations of traditional subject matter and his unique expressive style that utilizes a broad range of brush strokes to provide striking contrasts of light and dark.
