Breakfast at Christie’s: An Exclusive Tiffany & Design Tour

Join Japan Society’s distinguished guests on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM for an exclusive breakfast at Christie’s and a private viewing of their upcoming Design Sale led by Victoria Allerton Tudor, Vice President, Specialist, and Head of Sale in Design at Christie’s.
This early morning event offers a unique opportunity to explore Christie’s magnificent collection before it opens to the general public. The highlight of the sale is an extraordinary Tiffany Studios window, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistic vision that made Tiffany a legendary name in decorative arts.
The viewing features important works from 20th Century Design and American Avant-Garde movements. You’ll experience firsthand how the first half of the 20th century transformed design with luxurious creations by Jean Dunand, Paul Dupré-Lafon, and Pierre Chareau. The French post-war period is represented through iconic furniture and lighting by Jean Royère and Jean Prouvé.
Notable works by Alberto and Diego Giacometti from an Important New York Collection include the ‘Tête de femme’ and ‘Osselet’ floor lamps. The Surrealist influence appears in pieces by François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne, with works such as L’enveloppement d’Europe and Le Métaphore (Canard-Bateau) from several private collections.
The sale also features Scandinavian design through Paavo Tynell’s iconic ‘Snowflake’ chandelier from a distinguished American collection, alongside designs by Kaare Klint and Axel Einar Hjorth. Contemporary sculptural design is represented by modern masters Wendell Castle, Marc Newson, and Ron Arad.
