Introduction and Q&A with director Toshiaki Toyoda

A gonzo head trip in the spirit of Jodorowsky, Blood of Rebirth does for samurai what El Topo did for cowboys. Marking Toshiaki Toyoda’s return to filmmaking after a five-year absence, it’s a psychedelic tribute to the human ability to break free of all limits, shatter all prisons and endlessly be reborn. Set in the hazy past, and based on a famous folktale, a masseur is murdered and comes back from the dead for revenge. Toyoda’s intense visuals grab you by the face while space rockers Twin Tail stick their throbbing soundscape deep into your ears. Together they lift you out of your body, off this planet and up to distant stars.
