U.S. premiere.

1999,  52 min., video. Directed by Tetsuaki Matsue. Video courtesy of Japan Academy of Moving Images and Tetsuaki Matsue.

Director Matsue is a third-generation Korean-Japanese with little knowledge of his family roots. Worst of all, he hates kimchi, Korean pickles, while his family members and relatives enjoy it passionately. By asking questions of the people around him and musing on kimchi, Matsue begins to investigate his Korean cultural heritage in this entertaining documentary. Presented as a part of the conference Korea & Japan: Rediscovering the Past, Shaping the Future, held at Japan Society on April 26.

Participants of Korea & Japan: Rediscovering the Past, Shaping the Future, may attend this film event for free.
