Friday & Saturday, November 4 & 5
Indulge in the lush imagery, quirky sketches and fierce physicality of Akemi Takeya, Japanese dancer/poet/performance artist extraordinaire who has been a resident of Vienna since 1991. In bodypoems—REFLECTION, she combines five short vignettes into an evening of solo work, with live music performed by electronic musician and guitarist Marc Weiser, a founding member of the sound/visual project Rechenzentrum. Inspired by the work of the French poet Jean Cocteau, who wrote “The words of the poet flow from the hand, with one eye he sleeps, while with the other he is watching the creative flow,” Takeya’s nomadic soul-search creates a unique universe on stage, skillfully blending her experiences and influences from Japan, Austria and France. For over 10 years the award-winning Takeya has been known for creating solo and multi-disciplinary works with collaborators in dance, theater, film/video, photography and music; she was the recipient of the Austrian Dance Production Prize in 1999 and was a participant in the 2004 ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna.
Tickets: $28/$25 Japan Society members.
