Japan Society is honored to present Kotobuki: Auspicious Celebrations of Japanese Art from New York Private Collections, a vibrant new exhibition celebrating the richness of Japanese artistic traditions. We cordially invite you to join us for the opening reception of this extraordinary showcase, curated by the esteemed Dr. Miyeko Murase, Takeo and Itsuko Atsumi Professor Emerita of Japanese Art History at Columbia University.

Kotobuki, meaning “celebration,” sets the theme for this joyous exhibition spanning from the 12th to the 21st century that brings together rarely seen masterpieces, including exquisite paintings, calligraphy, surimono, textiles, ceramics, and baskets, from prominent private collections in the New York City area. We invite you to immerse yourself in the beauty and cultural significance of these carefully selected works, joining us in this unique celebration of Japanese art.

This event is FREE for members, but RSVP is required.

Following the exhibition viewing, we are delighted to host a special reception for our guests. This will be an excellent opportunity to engage with fellow art enthusiasts and gain deeper insights into the exhibition. We look forward to an evening of enriching conversations and connections as we come together to celebrate the beauty and significance of Japanese art and culture.
