Japanese Language Lesson 2: How to count in Japanese

In this lesson you will learn how to count numbers in Japanese from 1 to 100.

= ichi
= ni
= san
= yon / shi
= go
= roku
= nana / shichi
= hachi
= kyuu
= jyuu

How about 11? 11 would be 10 (jyuu) plus 1 (ichi). So 11 would be jyuu-ichi!

= jyuu-ichi

= jyuu-ni

= jyuu-san

= jyuu-yon

= jyuu-go

– jyuu-roku

= jyuu-nana

= jyuu-hachi

= jyuu-kyu

What about 20? It is also easy. 20 would be 2 (ni) times 10 (jyuu). So 20 would be ni-jyuu!

= ni-jyuu

= san-jyuu

= yon-jyuu

= go-jyuu

= roku-jyuu

= nana-jyuu

= hachi-jyuu

= kyuu-jyuu

= hyaku
