This year’s JAPAN CUTS film festival will bring together over 30 premiere screenings and a stellar guest list of directors and actors all starting on July 10—but we want to celebrate early!

Ahead of JAPAN CUTS, Japan Society will host a small group JAPAN CUTS Pre-Party with our friends at Brooklyn Kura (brooklynkura.com) on June 30. This is a very special tour and tasting inside New York’s first sake brewery.

This intimate event is limited to only 10 members.

During this event, participants will meet Brooklyn Kura President Brian Polen, take part in a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery, and experience a guided tasting including fresh shiboritate sake—an exclusive experience not offered to the public. As part of this event, Japan Society Director of Film Peter Tatara will update patrons on JAPAN CUTS 2024 and share previews of the festival’s biggest films.

All participants will receive a keepsake tote bag and two bottles of Brooklyn Kura sake as a special thank you.

ABOUT BROOKLYN KURA

In 2016, Brian Polen quit a nearly decade-long career to found Brooklyn Kura. The brewery first began as experimental home brews in the kitchens of Polen and business partner Brandon Doughan. After the two met by chance and discovered a shared love of sake, they spent years researching the beverage and breweries across Japan and the United States. Through a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation, Brooklyn Kura is committed to a new tradition of American Craft Sake. Building on more than 1,000 years of Japanese brewing history, Brooklyn Kura’s sake is hand-crafted with the highest quality ingredients right in New York City. Brooklyn Kura believes good sake is subtle and complex, and something to be enjoyed whether you’ve been on a sake pilgrimage to Japan or you’re a complete sake rookie.
