SOLD OUT: SPECIAL GALA PROGRAM Noh & Kyogen: Masters of Performance

On March 18, Japan Society celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Performing Arts Program with a special extended performance and Gala Event.  In addition to the regular program, members of Nohgaku Kyokai perform The Lion (Shishi), a special celebratory instrumental piece. Tickets to this event also include a rare opportunity to meet the all-star cast during a post-performance Champagne Reception.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the “Dream Team” of noh and kyogen performers! Nohgaku Kyokai, an association of 1,500 professional noh and kyogen performers, brings together the 25 most highly ranked performers for this event, including Katayama Kuroemon, Hosho Kan and Shigeyama Sensaku, whom the Japanese government have designated Living National Treasures. Outside of Japan, it is rare to see noh and kyogen performed back-to-back, as they have been for over 600 years! It is sure to be the biggest treat of the season.

Proceeds from the Spring Gala help Japan Society match a grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation for a Performing Arts Endowment. The Gala Reception is generously underwritten by Epstein Becker & Green P.C.

Regular program: The Heavy Burden of Love (Koi no Omoni) and Horizontal Singing (Neongyoku) only will be performed on Friday, March 19 & Saturday, March 20.
