Lecture past event
Since the late 1980’s Osaka-based artist Yasumasa Morimura has become widely known for his theatrically staged life-size photographic self-portraits that use significant paintings from Western art history and figures from American popular culture as sources. Mr. Morimura discusses the inspiration behind his works, which seduce with their familiarity and formal beauty while subtly inserting unexpected sexual and cultural juxtapositions.
Followed by a reception.
