Not Held at Japan Society – New York Butoh Festival

This fall marks the first New York Butoh Festival, a festival celebrating the origins and the international evolution of this vital form.  Butoh dance emerged in post World War II Japan and has become a worldwide movement influencing artists in many disciplines.  The festival presents emerging artists and established masters from Japan, Europe and the Eastern and
Western coasts of the U.S.   The festival is presented by CAVE Organization,the oldest existing experimental art space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Established masters such as Yukio Waguri (Japan), Joan Laage (Seattle) and SU-EN (Sweden) will be performing and giving intensive workshops during the festival. It is also a good chance to observe the work of emerging artists such as Dawn Saito, Zach Fuller (New York), Shinichi Momo Koga (San Francisco) and Chisato Katata (Japan). The festival celebrates its opening at the CAVE gallery with a FREE event; an installation/performance bringing together artists from the Cave and other New York dancers and musicians.
