Nihon New York – Episode 02: Zen in America: Painting with NYC’s Max Gimblett

Nihon New York recently had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with renowned artist Max Gimblett at his New York City studio to talk about his upcoming exhibition at Japan Society and to view his artistic process. Discussions ranged from his discovery of Japanese calligraphy (shodo), involvement with Zen Buddhism, approach while painting and the importance of oxherding (十牛 Ten oxherding pictures and short poems used to illustrate the practitioner’s progression towards englightenment).
