The annual staple of cutting-edge dance celebrates its ninth season! This year’s line-up features the three-woman group SHINONOME BUTOH, who have broken new ground in the “dark dance” of butoh by transforming it into their own energetic and bright aesthetic; APE’s comic and expressive movement collages, which juxtapose the mundane situations of everyday life with extraordinary revelations led by Tatsuya Kusuhara, who trained at the Laban Center; the feminine and romantic work of choreographer Kaoru Uchida’s Roussewaltz; two maverick soloists, Yukiko Amano, the lead dancer of the celebrated dance company Biwa-kei and a participant in the 2005 U.S.–Japan Choreographers Exchange Residency; and Youya Shinjo, an accomplished jazz dancer/choreographer who makes frequent tv appearances.

The 9th Annual Japanese Contemporary Dance Showcase is co-curated by the Japan Society and AN Creative’s Mayumi Nagatoshi.

Tickets: $28/$25 Japan Society members.
