Japan’s New Year’s Day Celebration: Oshogatsu

Celebrate Japan’s New Year’s holiday with lion dancing (shishi-mai) accompanied by live taiko drumming. There will be lots of traditional New Year’s activities for children, including special New Year’s calligraphy (kakizome), kite-making/flying (takoage), fukuwarai (funny face) game, taiko drumming, and rice pounding (mochi-tsuki).
Recommended for all ages.
TICKETS
Per session: $12/$5 Japan Society members; children ages 2 or under free.
Members may purchase tickets for family at the discounted price.
Gagaku music in the 3-4 PM session only.
Buy Tickets Online or call the Japan Society Box Office at (212) 715-1258, Mon. – Fri. 11 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am – 5 pm. Please note that Japan Society Box Office will be closed on Saturday, January 28th.
