The spirited widow of a sergeant, court-martialed and executed for desertion as the war ended, demands to learn the truth about her husband’s actions. A Rashomon-like mystery unfolds as she questions four veterans, witnesses to her husband’s last days. The riveting drama is suffused with Fukasaku’s characteristic love for his characters and rage against injustice. Newly subtitled by Linda Hoaglund.
