Do you like Japanese food? How often do you eat it? How well do you know about it? Everyone knows sushi, tenpura, and teriyaki, but today, let’s talk about some of the less-known Japanese food, and some expressions that you can use with them.

Nattou (fermented soy beans) – なっとう

It’s stringy, isn’t it? – ネバネバしてですね (nebaneba shite desu ne)

Whoa, what a smell! – わ〜、すごいにおい (waa, sugoi nioi)

Torotoro (grated yam) – とろとろ

This one is extremely slimy – とろり/とろとろ しています (torori/tortoro shite imasu)

Shiokara (salted fish intestines) – しおから

Salty – しょっぱい/しおからい (shoppai/shiokarai)

Spicy – からい (karai)

Bitter – にがい (nigai)

Fugu (pufferfish) – ふぐ

Firm and crunchy – コリコリしていますね (korikori shite imasu ne)

Is this really safe? – これ、だいじょうぶですか?(kore, daijoubu desu ka?)
