The idea of “bun” and “bu” (The pen and the sword in accord) is central to samurai culture. This program brings together two of the highest practices of samurai culture through a demonstration and discussion of the tea ceremony and swordsmanship. It will feature a tea ceremony by Kobori Soujitsu, 13th Grand Master of Enshu School of Tea and kenjutsu demonstration by Masami Shioda, Chairman of Shinkageryu Hyoho – The US Marobashikai.

Moderated by H. Paul Varley, one of America’s leading historians of the Japanese Tea Ceremony and Samurai Culture.
