Yukio Waguri, Artistic Director and founder of Kohzensha Butoh Company, began his career under the direction of butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata. Beginning with his stage debut in Hijikata’s 27 Nights for Four Seasons, Waguri kept diligent notes on the words Hijikata spoke while choreographing. These words, called butoh-fu (butoh notation), describe Hijikata’s unique method for choreography. The workshop includes a lecture on butoh-fu and a video screening and concludes with a body movement session.

No dance experience is necessary for this workshop. Max. 20 participants.

Tickets: $28, Japan Society members $25.
