Since 1961, La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club has passionately pursued its mission to develop, nurture, support, produce and present new and original performance work by artists of all nations and cultures. Among the first Japanese theater companies to perform in New York City–both at La MaMa–were Tenjo-Sajiki Production, directed by Shuji Terayama, and Tokyo Kid Brothers Production, led by Yutaka Higashi. Kyoko Kujo Terayama, Producer of Tenjo-Sajiki, and Nobutaka Kitagawa, journalist, discuss how these provocative companies made their New York debut in the early 1970s and how they were received by the Big Apple. In Japanese.

Presented in conjunction with the Japanese Directors Retrospective at La MaMa La Gallaria, celebrating La MaMa’s 40th anniversary. For more information on the La MaMa program, call (212) 254-6468.

Tickets: $10, Japan Society members & seniors $8, students $5.
