Used in the kabuki theater and bunraku puppet theater, the three-stringed shamisen is one of the most important and versatile instruments in Japanese traditional music. Kine-ie Nami, the nagauta-style master who is also active in the contemporary music scene, leads this workshop, giving an overview of the traditional Japanese pentatonic scale as well as special playing techniques.
