With high-profile cases of cyber-attacks on governments and corporations occurring with ever greater frequency, there is intense pressure on institutions worldwide to secure their information and communication networks. The Japanese government in particular is starting to take major steps in reforming its IT security standards. In a March 2014 report, the National Information Security Center calls for greater co-operation between firms and more resources devoted to Research and Development, as well as long-term cultivation of IT talent to combat growing threats to Japan’s essential IT infrastructure. In this lecture, His Excellency Ichita Yamamoto, Minister in Charge of Information Technology Policy, discusses how the Japanese government intends to achieve these goals and turn Japan into a world leader in IT security innovation.
