Against a postwar backdrop of chaos and hope, five young Japanese musicians play jazz at American military clubs, grudgingly befriending their former enemies. Trying to please raucous G.I.s or backing up strippers, they make American music their own. Featuring a glorious sound track of jazz standards and an all-star Japanese cast joined by Peter Mullan, a Cannes Best Actor winner.
