Opening November 12, 2005

A Play by Glyn Maxwell adapted from the Akutagawa story In a Grove and the Kurosawa film Rashomon.

The Akutagawa story In a Grove and the Kurosawa film Rashomon are brought to life for the stage in this enthralling adaptation of a classic tale.  In Broken Journey, three people meet off an uninhabited stretch of highway. Within hours, an inexplicable act of violence has taken place.  Interrogations of the participants—and a local clairvoyant—only add to the ambiguity:  Was the violence deliberate or accidental?  Was rape involved?  And who did what to whom?  Suspenseful and deeply moving, this pillar of Japanese film and literature is made vibrantly new through the sensuous language of poet/playwright Glyn Maxwell.
