Join Japanese-language students and native Japanese speakers at this informal virtual language exchange to practice your Japanese. After a performance by our J-Culture guest, we will move into breakout rooms grouped by level to chat. Levels include introductory, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. 日本に興味のある人たちや日本語を勉強中の人たちと気軽に会話を楽しみましょう。ゲストによる演奏の後で、日本語、英語のレベル別にグループに分かれて語学交換を行います。日本人の方、英語を勉強中の方、ふるってご参加ください！

Admission: This is a free event, with advance RSVP required. Participants must be age 16 or older. 参加費無料。事前のお申し込みが必要です。

About the Guest

Masayo Ishigure began playing the koto and jiuta shamisen at the age of five in Japan. She received a degree in Japanese Traditional Music from Takasaki Junior Arts College with a concentration on koto and shamisen. Ishigure-san has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Metropolitan Museum, and other venues in the New York City metropolitan area. She was a guest artist with the San Diego New Heaven, Seattle Symphony and Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and has performed internationally. She performed at the Kennedy Center in 2015, was a recording artist in the Grammy Award-Winning soundtrack for the film “Memoirs of a Geisha,” and has received many nominations and awards.

石榑雅代（いしぐれ・まさよ）： 岐阜市出身。5歳から琴、12歳で地唄三味線を始める。高崎芸術大学音楽科邦楽部(琴、三弦)を卒業後、1992年よりコネチカット州のウエスリアン大学音楽部にて10年間琴、三味線の指導に当たる。1996年にニューヨークに活動の拠点を移し、カーネギホール、リンカンセンター、メトロポリタン美術館等を始め、ロシア、ベラルーシ、ジャマイカ、ブラジル、タイ、韓国、ヨーロッパなど、世界各地で公演。2005年には巨匠ジョン・ウィリアムス氏の作曲による映画『さゆり(Memoirs of Geisha)』のサウンドトラックのレコーディングをイツァーク・パールマン、ヨーヨーマ各氏らと共に行う。2015年に日本国大使館主催『ケネディーセンターメロディー・オブ・ジャパン ”koto-Opera”』に出演。現在演奏活動の傍ら、コロンビア大学で邦楽(箏）クラスを受け持つ他、ニューヨーク、ワシントンDC地区でのプライベートレッスンも行っている。伝統と現代の間でより根源的な視点より箏を見つめ、自由な発想と感性で箏の音楽を追究している。
