Nihon NY – Episode 35 – Yoshitaka Amano
In this episode of Nihon NY, we’re at New York ComicCon! We were lucky enough to have the chance to talk with renowned Japanese artist, character designer and illustrator Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his work on the Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D. and Gatchaman.
We had a chance to discuss how Amano got his start in the industry, how he is perceived as being a very Western style artist in Japan, but a very Japanese artist in the West and how his style has (or has not) changed over the years and what new mediums he’s currently working with.
Amano currently has a new boxed set titled, "The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy" released by Dark Horse. The book coincides with Amano’s 60th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series.
So be sure to check out his amazing work if you haven’t already!
