Shizuoka Performing Arts Center (SPAC), presented Euripides’ Medea at Japan Society on September 23-25, 2011. This spectacular version with exquisite costumes and rapturous live musical accompaniment, directed and re-interpreted by Satoshi Miyagi, takes place in an imperialist and male-dominated Meiji era Japan, or late 19th-early 20th century. On the day of their dress rehearsal, we caught up with director Satoshi Miyagi (General Artistic Director of SPAC/director of Medea/ founder of Ku Na’uka theater company) and actress Micari (who plays the "mover" role of Medea in this production) to ask them about how they first got involved in theater and what makes this production of Medea special.
