Matcha & Wagashi: Matsue’s Tea Culture
The city of Matsue is famed for its tea culture, which centers around matcha (powdered green tea) and wagashi (Japanese traditional sweets). Due to the patronage of Lord Matsudaira of Matsue Castle centuries ago, an appreciation for tea culture has been passed down through generations and enjoying matcha at afternoon tea or serving it to guests in one’s home has become an integral part of people’s lives. At this intimate seated workshop, you’ll delve into the city’s tea culture first-hand with Matsue craftspeople, whisk up a steaming bowl of matcha, and learn to shape elegant wagashi confections in Matsue’s signature style.
Participants will be able to take home their tea bowl and chasen (tea whisk) to enjoy matcha at home after this workshop.
