Join the Japan Society Film team for a Netflix Party screening of Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.

In this ceaselessly entertaining, adventure-filled classic, master thief Lupin turns an elaborate chateau inside out to save a beautiful young woman from forced marriage to the malicious counterfeiter Count Cagliostro. Making his directorial debut, Hayao Miyazaki (working for a major animation company prior to the founding of Studio Ghibli) puts a twist on the original Monkey Punch manga by making the arrogant titular thief into something of a loveable hero, an approach that resulted in the most well-regarded film in the immensely popular Lupin franchise and a landmark work in the history of Japanese animation.

"One of the greatest adventure movies of all time." – Steven Spielberg, via Manga Entertainment

PG-13, 1979, 100 min., color, available in English, Spanish, Japanese (Original), and Brazilian Portuguese with English, Japanese (CC), Spanish, Traditional and Simplified Chinese subtitles. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
