The author of numerous books on religious and psychological themes, Hayao Kawai is President of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and one of Japan’s most eminent psychologists and cultural critics. Dr. Kawai looks at the changes occurring in Japanese society, focusing on the increasing visibility and influence of women. He also explores the important role Japanese women are playing in enriching public life through their contributions in literature and discusses the efforts of the Japanese Literature Publishing Project (JLPP) by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan in promoting contemporary Japanese literature abroad.
