Umetsugu Inoue: Japan’s Music Man

December 15–16, 2018

Workshop

Friday, December 14, 6-8 PM

Songs are powerful storytellers of their times. Workshop participants will have lively discussions about songs from three decades: the 1950s, the 1980s and the 2010s. We will look at changes in music, social values, the Japanese language, and more. This workshop is intended for advanced students (Japanese Levels 11, 12, and 13 or equivalent).

The workshop fee includes admission to one film in the Umetsugu Inoue: Japan’s Music Man film series. It is recommended that participants choose to see The Stormy Man following the workshop, as song lyrics from the film will be featured in this workshop. Please contact the Language Center at 212-715-1269 or [email protected] with your film selection.

The workshop will be taught by Ms. Kazue Kurahara. Ms. Kurahara earned a BA from Hunter College and a MA in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from NYU.
