Korean-born multimedia artist Nam June Paik has played a seminal role in introducing the possibilities of using video for artistic expression. In this discussion, he is joined by Japanese video artist Shigeko Kubota whose highly acclaimed body of video sculptures has been the subject of numerous exhibitions. Since the 1960s, both artists have shaped our notions of the potential of video and television through a vast array of sculptures, installations, video tapes, global television productions, films and performances. In this rare appearance led by John G. Hanhardt, Senior Curator of Film and Media Arts at the Guggenheim Museum and the curator of Mr. Paik’s recent major retrospective at the Guggenheim, they will explore their work, collaborations and the role of Japan and Korea in their art.

Followed by a reception.

Tickets: $10, Japan Society & The Korea Society members & seniors $8, students $5.
