Ichi-go Ichi-e Encounters, with Sumie Kaneko
Join us for an exclusive evening of traditional Japanese music with NYC-based artist Sumie Kaneko, held in the intimate setting of Globus Washitsu—a Kyoto-style tatami room and ryokan.
This member-only event in January features Sumie Kaneko, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist skilled in both traditional Japanese and contemporary genres. With expertise in shamisen and koto, she seamlessly blends these instruments with jazz and experimental music, performing worldwide in solo and group settings. Sumie has collaborated with a wide range of international artists, including Dai Fujikura, Lew Tabackin, and Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel. Her performances have graced prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Blue Note NYC, TED Talks, and The Getty Center. She has also lectured at institutions like Harvard, MIT, and Princeton. With over 20 years of international performance experience, Sumie continues to push boundaries in her field, recently embarking on a European tour sponsored by The Japan Foundation.
Before the performance, enjoy a selection of tea and Japanese sweets, followed by sake and sushi in a serene and inviting atmosphere.
