HERE & THERE – As of Now: The Big Bands of Toshiko Akiyoshi & Maria Schneider

The world premiere of commissions by Jazz at Lincoln Center, composed by two of the most acclaimed bandleaders and composers in jazz, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Maria Schneider. Akiyoshi celebrates her band’s 30th anniversary and The Year of the Drum with a new work featuring her native Japan’s taiko drums. The luminously swinging music of Schneider, protégé of Gil Evans, rounds out this very special evening.
