Revival from the Great East Japan Earthquake: Learning from John Manjiro

A lecture in Japanese with Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara of St. Luke’s International Hospital of Japan, entitled “Revival from the Great East Japan Earthquake: Learning from John Manjiro.” The scope of damage from last year’s earthquake on March 11 was devastating, but the support from Japan as well as over 135 countries have helped the people of Tohoku progress toward the road of recovery. Through the lens of John Manjiro’s difficult life, Dr. Hinohara discusses a model for the revival of the affected areas.

ジャパン・ソサエティーは2012年8月15日、財団法人聖路加国際病院理事長、同名誉院長の日野原重明先生を講師に招き「東日本大震災からの復興にむけてージョン万次郎から学ぶこと」と題する講演会を開催します。昨年3月11日の東日本大震災で被災地は大きな打撃を被りましたが、日本各地だけでなく世界135の国、地域から大きな援助を受け、住民の立ち上がりが進んでいます。多難な生涯を過ごしたジョン万次郎の生き方は東日本大震災からの復興への一つのモデルになるのではないかとの視点から、ジョン万次郎を語ります。
