1993, 92 min., 16mm, color. Directed by Shinobu Yaguchi. Written by Takuji Suzuki, Yasunobu Nakagawa, and Shinobu Yaguchi. With Saori Serizawa, Akane Asano, and Mr. Okure. Print courtesy of Pia.

Junko, the heroine of this sly, black comedy, is a well-intentioned high school student swept up in a tsunami of bad luck. Apprehended for sneaking a train ride, her life gradually unravels in a string of outrageous coincidences until she hits bottom. Buffeted beyond endurance by winds of fate, she finally resolves to take things into her own hands. Director Yagushi has devised an unforgettably quirky, self-assured tone for the plucky heroine of his film debut.
